Kedah welcomes investment in hi-tech and non-labour intensive sectors. The government offers various incentives for investors. Investors can set up their plants and R&D facilities concerned at any industrial estates developed by the state or private sector. However it is highly recommended that hi-tech and R&D related industries to be located at Malaysia’s premier Kulim Hi-Tech Park.

Procedures of setting up operations in Kedah are simple and straight forward. Kedah is hosting diversified hi-tech industries such as wafer fabrication, printed circuit board manufacturing, processor, disc, chip trays products and semiconductor microprocessors and server board.

Infineon Technologies, Celestica, Silterra, Intel Products, Fuji Electrics, Showa Denko and AIC Semiconductor are some of the international names located in Kulim Hi-Tech Park, Kedah.

Bio-Technology

Bio-Technology has been identified as one of the five core technologies that will accelerate Malaysia’s transformation into a highly industrialised nation. In line with this national strategy, Kulim Hi-Tech Park is promoting biotechnology to fulfil its mission of becoming a premier bio-technology investment location in the world. Kedah Bio-Resources Corporation has been established to assist investors in this field.

Among major initiatives undertaken by the state in promoting biotechnology in the country are :
