Kedah has numerous higher educational institutions. These are primarily located in the northern part of Kedah. With world class institutions at all levels, Kedah is ready to offer abundance of educated and well-trained workforce.
One of the most premier universities in Malaysia is Malaysia Northern University or known as Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). The institution is a public university located in the northern part of Kedah. It was formally incorporated on 16th of February 1984. The University was established with the specific mission of research, I.T, economics, banking and post-graduate studies. Kedah is also well-known for its technical education and training institutions. Medical studies are provided at the Asian Institute of Medical Sciences.
Kedah has a variety of education institutions such as Islamic education institutions known as Insaniah College University, technical colleges, polytechnics and MARA Technical Institute and etc. The Kedah Industrial Skills and Management Centre (Kismec) is established to provide a flow of well trained workers for the industrial sector.
